Arrival

Winter Term: September 1
Summer Term: February 1

During the first two weeks, in addition to regular lectures orientation and information sessions will take place, providing opportunities to acquaint yourselves with fellow students, the university, Karlsruhe and surrounding cities. Concurrently, the German Intensive Course and other lectures are scheduled. The orientation and informations sessions are obligatory.

Pick-up

Arriving at Karlsruhe main station, you'll be welcomed by your designated buddy or a representative who will accompany you to your dormitory or arranged accommodation. If you arrive on a weekend or public holiday, arrangements will be made for a smooth key handover to ensure direct access to your room. To simplify the coordination of the pick-up, please let your buddy know your arrival time in advance and inform them immediately of any changes.

Registration

All international students have to register within two weeks after their arrival.

Registration offices:
Bürgerbüro Ost - Karlsruher Str. 23, 76139 Karlsruhe
Bürgerbüro K8 – Kaiserallee 8, 76133 Karlsruhe (main office)

During the first weeks of the semester, we will organize group appointments for registration which will be accompanied by a buddy who will help with translation. It is highly recommended to join one of the group appointments, as the waiting time for an individual appointment can be quite long and being registered is necesssary to open a bank account in Germany.

Students are required to bring their passport as well as their enrollment certificate and a document called “Wohnungsgeberbestätigung” which will be provided by the landlord.

GEZ-Broadcasting Fees:

During your stay in the dormitory, you will receive a payment order for broadcasting fees which will have to be paid regardless of the actual media use. If you live in a shared appartement, please check with your roommates whether one of them already has a GEZ account number and what would be your contribution.

The current GEZ fees are EUR 18.36 per month and appartment.

Tax ID:

After registration at Bürgerbüro, students will receive a letter with their personal tax ID. Scholarship holders have to submit theit Tax ID to the International Office in order to receive the scholarship!
